Macron says Europe ready to offer security guarantees to Ukraine

PARIS -- French President Emmanuel Macron said Wednesday that Europe is prepared to provide security guarantees for Ukraine once a peace agreement with Russia is reached.
Macron made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Elysee Palace. Zelensky arrived in Paris Wednesday evening to attend a virtual meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing," scheduled for Thursday, the French presidency said.
At a joint press conference, Macron said Europe's preparations were complete and it is ready to offer security assurances to Ukraine and its people "on the day a peace agreement is reached" between Russia and Ukraine.
Thursday's summit, to be co-chaired by Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will focus on security guarantees for Ukraine. European leaders attending the event will take a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump during the meeting.
