"It's very important that the leading countries — the United States and China — work together to address some of the potential problems that we see with artificial intelligence (AI)," said Jake Werner, director of the East Asia Program at the Quincy Institute and a researcher on US-China relations.

Werner, who has traveled to China many times, shared his insights with China Daily during his visit to Beijing for a dialogue between the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies and the Carter Center on March 24, 2025. He highlighted China's remarkable technological developments, noting that they have benefited both the country and the global community.

Werner emphasized that the Chinese people, like people everywhere, have the right to pursue economic growth through technological improvements, adding that the US should create more possibilities for such progress.

On managing AI-related risks, Werner stressed the need for a global framework to mitigate threats to humanity and employment.
