Xi Jinping signs nuclear deal as UK and China clinch ￡40bn of contracts

China and Britain have signed multi-billion pound business deals, including for the project to build a nuclear power station in Britain, during day two of the Chinese president’s first state visit to the country.
中國(guó)國(guó)家主席習(xí)近平對(duì)英國(guó)進(jìn)行首次國(guó)事訪問(wèn)的第二天，中英簽署了價(jià)值數(shù)十億英鎊的商業(yè)協(xié)議，包括在英國(guó)興建一處核電站的項(xiàng)目。

Xi Jinping and David Cameron on Wednesday attended a UK-China business summit at Mansion House, where the focus was on investment, infrastructure and innovation.
習(xí)近平和卡梅倫21日出席了在倫敦市長(zhǎng)官邸舉行的中英商業(yè)峰會(huì)，峰會(huì)主題為投資、基建和創(chuàng)新。

Cameron said at the press conference after the two leaders met: "A strong relationship is in both our countries’ interests, not just because it brings investment and jobs and higher living standards for our peoples – vital though these things are."
卡梅倫與習(xí)近平會(huì)晤之后召開的記者招待會(huì)上表示：“加強(qiáng)中英關(guān)系符合我們的利益，不僅是因?yàn)樗軒?lái)投資和工作機(jī)會(huì)、提高人們的生活水平，雖然這些方面也至關(guān)重要。”

Language tips:

Summit作為名詞表示“山峰，最高峰”，上文中體現(xiàn)的是summit的另外一個(gè)含義，即“峰會(huì)，首腦會(huì)議”。Summit作為形容詞還有“國(guó)家元首之間的, 最高級(jí)的”之意，例如：a summit conference（最高級(jí)會(huì)議）。

Stake指的是競(jìng)賽、冒險(xiǎn)行為中的“賭注”，have a stake in something，在某事上下了賭注，意思就是“與…有利害關(guān)系，與…息息相關(guān)”。還有一個(gè)跟stake相關(guān)的短語(yǔ)也經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)在新聞報(bào)道中，at stake，這個(gè)短語(yǔ)的意思是成敗難料，得失都有可能，有風(fēng)險(xiǎn)。例如：About 3,000 jobs are at stake if the company moves to another state。
