China offers $1 mln for Philippine landslide relief
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2006-02-19 13:42

The Chinese government has decided to offer one million US dollars worth of emergency relief for the Philippine government to help its disaster-relief efforts in the landslide area.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Saturday, the relief fund includes 250,000 U.S. dollars in cash.

A massive landslide swept away more than 300 households in minutes in south-central Philippines on Friday. Only 86 survivors have been found of an estimated village population of 2,000.

Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolence on Friday to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the heavy casualties and property loss caused by the landslide.

In the message, Hu, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, offered sincere sympathies to President Arroyo, the Philippine government and the relatives of the victims.
