Brains win over brawn: Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf became Africa's first directly elected woman president, in a battle for Liberia's top job which saw her pitted against former soccer legend George Weah, who won fame as a striker for AC Milan in the 1990s.
The Harvard-educated economist, a mother of four and grandmother of six, served in the Liberian Government in the 1970s and later worked for Citibank and the World Bank.
