EU offers aid to DPRK's health sector

The European Commission (EC), the executive arm of the European Union (EU), announced here Monday that it has adopted a plan to offer 10.715 million euros (about 12. 86 million US dollars) in humanitarian aid to the health sector in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

"It will provide much-needed equipment and medicines, and help rehabilitate health centers, hospitals and special services," said a press release issued by the EC.

"Medical supplies will be provided for more than 8 millionpeople in the South Hamgyong, North Pyongan, South Pyongan,Chagang,and Kaesong regions," it added.

The EU is among the largest and most consistent donors to theDPRK.

Since its first intervention in 1995, it has provided a totalof around 393 million euros (about 476 million US dollars) in aidfor the DPRK since 1995, the EU's website said.
