The 10th Shandong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Conference opened in Weifang City, Shandong Province in East China on August 31.

Zhang Xinqi, mayor of Weifang City.

The event will last two days with a host of events, including an industry expo, investment talks between Taiwan investors and Shandong enterprises, a big project contracts signing ceremony and a Miss Kite Competition.

The 10th conference is expected to receive nearly 10,000 participants, including 3,000 from Taiwan Province and some foreign countries. The Straits Mutual Market Development Foundation's president Xiao Wanchang will address at the conference.

The industry expo will focus on five industries, namely marine chemicals, mechanics, textiles, paper and food. There are 1,200 boothes in the expo covering about 40,000 square meters.

Enterprises from Taiwan Province, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, Malaysia, and company groups from 16 mainland cities will display their products and seek project investments on the expo.

In recent years enterprises in Taiwan are actively considering to transfer their production bases and capital to the mainland, especially the North China region, in order to lower costs and expand businesses at the northern market.

The conference is one of the four major trade events in Shandong held by the Shandong Provincial People's Government and supported by the State Council, the China Convention of Trade and Investment Promotion.

Since 1994, the event has been held for 9 times with a reception of over 20,000 business people from Taiwan Province and seen the signing of 550 projects with a total investment of US$1.4 billion.
