Anti-graft official stresses people's rights, interests
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2004-08-03 10:15

Priority should be given to the implementation of cracking down on various infringements upon people's rights and interests in China's anti-corruption work, said Wu Guanzheng, China's disciplinary chief, at a recent symposium attended by some local disciplinary officials.

China has made some achievements in its anti-corruption movement, but still a lot of arduous work was needed to better solve the problem, said Wu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Wu said cracking down on violations against people's rights and interests should continue to be an important part of China's anti-corruption work. He called for firm rectification of behaviors that violated farmers' interests in land requisition as well as behaviors that hurt workers' interests in enterprise reform and bankruptcy.

The disciplinary chief also mentioned other specific areas including excessive educational charges and kickback taking in medical service.
