Official stresses science and tech planning

Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili Saturday called for strengthening
strategic research on planning of medium and long-term scientific and
technological development to promote overall, harmonious and sustainable
development of the nation.
Chen made the call in a speech delivered at a meeting on strategic research
on the planning, held on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1.
The councilor, who is also vice director of the leading group for the
research work, said that the strategic research is proceeding well with fruitful
results.
Chen noted that to plan for development of science and technology is
necessary for China to face economic globalization and build itself into a
relatively affluent society.
It is also an important measure to enhance the competitiveness of China's
scientific and technological sector and to increase the overall strength of the
country, said the councilor.
The councilor also urged researchers to strengthen exchanges and enlarge
participation of the public in the work.
