There are various ways to get killed in Sao Paulo, South America's largest city, and working as a motorcycle messenger, or "motoboy," is one of them.

At least two "motoboys" die in accidents every day in Sao Paulo's chaotic traffic, according to Caito Ortiz, the director of a documentary on them entitled "Blind Spot."

About 300,000 motoboys work in the city, thought to be the largest such work force in the world, Ortiz said.

His film, which will be shown at the Sao Paulo Film Festival opening on Friday, follows the lives of four motoboys and a motogirl as they cut through the city's traffic delivering documents, newspapers, pizzas and flowers.

Although the motoboys provide a vital service for business in Brazil's financial capital, Paulistanos also abhor them for the way they weave at top speed through traffic. Fights between angry drivers and motoboys are not uncommon.

"This is the most debated issue of the moment in the city," Ortiz said. "People have a love-hate relationship with them. They are a vital group for modern society."
