China invites investment from overseas Chinese
( 2003-10-01 10:01) (Xinhua)

The Chinese government sincerely welcomes overseas Chinese to participate in the country's construction and promote trade and economic cooperation between China and the countries they live in, said Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi Tuesday.

As an important part of China's national economy, the enterprises set up by overseas Chinese in China have contributed to economic development in where the enterprises are operating, said Wu at a meeting with chiefs of 100 Star Enterprises run by overseas Chinese in China during 2000-2002.

These enterprises have also played an active role in stepping up China's modernization drive by bringing along more overseas businessmen to invest in China, said the vice premier, who expressed thanks to the entrepreneurs for their care, support and participation in China's economic development.

Wu reiterated China's basic state policy of opening up to the outside world, saying attracting foreign investment is a major part of this policy. She said China has become one of the most attractive countries to foreign investors as it enjoys a stable political and social environment and its investment environment is getting better.

The vice premier said overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan could make more contributions in China 's efforts to build an affluent society in an all-round way.
