China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that China and Hungary are experiencing the best period in their relations, with Beijing ready to build greater strategic trust and expand practical cooperation with Budapest.

Wang made the remarks in Beijing during talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, who is in China to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The success of China-Hungary cooperation demonstrates that China and the European Union are partners rather than rivals, Wang said, noting that the two sides can learn from each other and achieve mutual success.

He expressed the hope that Hungary will continue to play a constructive role in encouraging the EU to foster a rational perception of China and to pursue a positive policy toward Beijing.

At a time when the international situation is marked by instability and changes, Wang emphasized that China's Global Governance Initiative, which was put forward at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting, is both timely and widely welcomed.

China stands ready to work with Hungary and the wider international community to uphold multilateralism and advance the building of a fairer and more equitable global governance system, he added.

Szijjarto spoke highly of China's consistent commitment to peace and its crucial role in safeguarding global stability. Hungary looks forward to further deepening relations with China, he said.

He also said Budapest attaches great importance to the governance initiative and is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination with Beijing to promote the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

Cooperation between the EU and China represents an opportunity rather than a risk, he said, adding that Hungary firmly supports the development of EU-China relations and stands ready to continue playing a constructive role in this regard.
